I Did Not Throw My Baby At Him

Did anybody watch American Idol last night and see that woman toss her baby at Syesha?  Was anybody else thinking, “What the hell was that?”

Last Friday night we had the chance to see Dan Zanes live in a small town an hour or so from where we live.  It was really fun.  Even though Arwyn missed her nap and was asking to go to bed on the way home and we basically had gas station food for dinner.  She has a SLIGHT AVERSION to loud noises but only covered her ears for the first couple of songs.  This is progress, people.  There were also bubble machines and a disco ball!

His music is kind of rocky/folksy/maybe slightly bluegrassy.  It’s for kids, but I think it’s pretty appropriate for adults as well, which makes for a nice balance.  You won’t want to poke your eardrums out with a sharp instrument after listening to it multiple times.  And he has a lot of albums out, so you have a wide range of songs and styles to choose from.  The only disappointment of the night was Father Goose wasn’t there and we thought he would be.  I had to comfort Bubby about this more than Arwyn.  We only recognized one of the band members from the videos we’ve seen (Collin the drummer), but the new ones were awesome and we really enjoyed bopping to some live music for an hour.  Everyone signed autographs after the show, which was really cool.  It was fun to see them up close and personal and talk to them a little bit.  Though we did try to refrain from the “Dude, I totally play music too.  I, like, played the drums in high school.”  I actually played the xylophone, but I didn’t feel the need to share this little-known fact with any of the ACTUAL MUSICIANS that people pay money to listen to, unlike some other folks in the crowd.  I’m thinking HE PROBABLY DOESN’T CARE that you can play the kazoo or whatever.

All of my photos from the night can be seen here.
