Stripey Rick Sock
In the week (sorry!) since I’ve last posted, wordpress has totally changed their layout and I’m a little lost. You don’t post for six days and look what happens! Bear with me whilst I re-learn what I’m doing here.
This is a rice sock that I made last week when I was having some shoulder issues. I’ll spare you the shoulder-injury stories and just say this: I have an old shoulder problem. It flares up on occasion. Yes, I’ve been to PT (twice). I’ve been on medication. I now self-medicate using anti-inflammatories (Tylenol for now–I’m so ready to get back to my beloved Advil) and heat. I stretch when I remember to do so. Anywho, I saw Nino’s rice socks a couple of months ago and decided to make one. We used to have some, but I think they were used so much that they were eventually pitched. Burnt rice doesn’t smell so good. So I dug out a pair of my stripey thigh-highs that I haven’t worn in oh, two years, but were still in my sock basket. I laid them on the kitchen counter, probably got distracted and thought, oh, I’ll fill those with rice later. TWO MONTHS LATER to be exact.
Thanks, Nino for the great idea to use the socks. So much easier than sewing up bags. Not that I would really know, since the last time we made these I had my sister sew them for me. But it was much easier than going to the store, picking out fabric, begging my sister to sew them, etc. Just fill with rice and tie a knot in the end. Yay for simplicity. The rice sock is also much more portable than the heating pad. And now Arwyn likes to walk around with the stripey sock around her neck and say, “My shoulder hurts.” Poor thing. Her parents are both old battle-scarred athletes with old football injuries. Well, really they are skiing, basketball, car accident and moving injuries but for some reason I think old football injury sounds better. More romantic.
Lay-zee

Why is that every time I scan something it comes out crooked? And apparently I am too lazy to correct it because I just leave it that way. It adds to the aesthetic of the photograph, don’t you think? That’s what I tell myself, anyway. I meant for it to be that way.
This is just a little blue flower petal bowl that I picked up today on my solo shopping excursion. Alone. All by myself. Well, not exactly since the babester is sort of, um, attached. I wore out quickly though, and had to come home to eat lunch. I have no stamina these days.
Happy April 1st! I was going to say that this was our new puke bowl as an April Fool’s, but I think April Fool’s is kind of weird, so there you go.
