Halcyon Days
Swinging in the backyard this afternoon. Wondering why the lighting on the Polaroid is so weird. Not knowing how to fix it or caring enough to make an effort. Letting her shake the picture, hence the thumb print on the bottom corner. Saying hello to passing neighbors. Taking down lights and extension cords from the fence that have been there for two years. Letting her help, even though her tools are for gardening and cooking. Making deals involving the Passy Fairy and shark slip-n-slides. Talking about what kind of birthday cake she wants. Taking out the trash and recycling. Trying to let her sit on my lap, even though I don’t have much of a lap these days. Treasuring our last weeks together, alone, just the two of us. Knowing we’ll never have these days again.

The thumbprint is fantastic. So very authentic. The words at once inspire me and break my heart. What a precious, precious time this is for you both. Enjoy it!
