Make-up Post
Oops! Yesterday got by me without a post and it was Tuesday! I even thanked Nino for reminding me about it and then promptly forgot again. Let’s blame it on pregnancy brain, shall we?

This is a photo of me and my big sister. On the back my mom has written that she is 10 1/2 years old and I am 10 1/2 days old, so this would have been November 29, 1975. You’ve gotta love her huge barrette and my socks! And why does a 10 day old baby need to wear shoes???? Maybe I was really advanced for my age and I was getting ready to bust out my super sly moves.
I am pretty sure this was taken at my grandparents’ house. That looks like my Papaw’s chair. His chair changed a few times over the years, but there was always one that was his and if you were sitting in it and he wanted to sit down, look out! There was always a big fat chaw nearby and it was in prime viewing location of the tv.
These old Polaroids are really small. This one is about 3 1/4 inches square and there isn’t a space at the bottom to write on. I looked for film at Target yesterday and couldn’t find any at all, not even regular 35 mm. So I guess that guy wasn’t a wacko after all.
Deluded But Now With Extra Sunshine
I love Daylight Savings time! It doesn’t get dark at 5 pm anymore! Yipee!!!! For some reason it is much easier for me to fill the hours until Bubby gets home from work when the sun is shining. You know, because it’s been one whole day so far, so it CAN’T just be that we are having a good day. It is going to be like this EVERY DAY. It IS, why are you laughing? Or as I jokingly told Juju four years ago when we were talking about what my life was going to be like post-baby: Every day will be like Christmas. RIIIIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHTTT.

I picked these up at the grocery last week and I have managed to keep them alive for one week so far. Not sure if I should repot them (do we have any potting soil?), plant them outside (is the dirt soft enough to dig in or still frozen solid?), or just let them fade away on their own. Last year our first daffodil bloomed on March 20 and I know this because I wrote it in my calendar. Yeah, I’m weird like that SO WHAT. In 2006 our first daffodil popped open on February 28. So far, I haven’t seen anything yellow in the yard, but they are out of the ground and have buds (if the snow didn’t kill everything off over the weekend).
I don’t really know where I’m going with this other than I’m so glad spring is arriving, and I really have nothing else to talk about. Today I’ve been spending a lot of time doing what I like to call Home Secretarial Work. Signed Arwyn up for a Sibling Class in May, called two places about possible soccer classes for her, talked to Bubby about the THIRD estimate for our basement, called various banks, tried to come up with some activities for Arwyn so we don’t kill each other this summer. If only I got paid to do this crap. And now I must awaken my child from her afternoon slumber so that she will go to bed sometime before midnight tonight.
It’s Mine!
There are precious few things in this world that I don’t have to share with someone in this house. My body parts, my bed, the bathroom, the computer, my Girl Scout cookies, even some of my art supplies are shared (willingly or not) with others. I thought my Special non-planner datebook was one of those very few things that was mine alone. But apparently I was wrong.

While the blue scribble is lovely in it’s own way, it was not placed there by me and I’m fairly certain Bubby didn’t do it. It could have been worse. But the point is, this is supposed to be my very own little creative notebook to do with as I please. I did not pay $16 for this notebook so she could scribble on it and she is not supposed to touch the Sharpies (permanent marker in a three year old’s hand = not a good idea). Bubby: This is why I don’t let her play with MY STUFF.
Bubby finds it humorous that Arwyn is just like me in this aspect. She has HER room with HER toys and HER stuff and she doesn’t like it when her things are messed with. I understand this because I feel the exact same way. I predict this will be a problem when there is another little person living here wanting to get into all of HER stuff. I shared a room with my sister up until the age of eight when she got married and abandoned me (I keed!). She was ten years older than me and had a lot of cool stuff. I was strictly forbidden from getting into the top drawer of the dresser where she kept all the good stuff: nail polish, make up, a little notebook with a pencil from her prom. So, of course, that was the first place I headed when left to my own devices. Even though I knew perfectly well that I would get in trouble, the pull of that forbidden temptation was too strong to resist.
This post was supposed to be about how great the non-planner datebook is and then when I was taking the picture I saw the blue scribble and all creative thoughts went out the window. I understand why Arwyn wants to mess with my stuff. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t irritate the ever-loving crap out of me all the same.

Simply Snarky

Recently I heard a guy in front of me on line at Target talking about how Polaroid was going to stop making their film and he was stocking up on it while he still could. I briefly thought, “Whatever, wacko” and went about my business. But it seems to be true. Now I have to be sad and nostalgic AGAIN. Also, my apologies to the random guy at Target for calling you a wacko in my head.
So in the spirit of Simply Sassy’s Polaroid Tuesdays, I am going to make an effort to dig up some old Polaroid shots and possibly make some new ones. I only have six frames left on my current roll of film, and I don’t know if I can still get it locally, especially if that wacko is out buying it all up. Oops, I did it again.
I think Bubby owned the camera when we met, but we rarely use it. Our Polaroid is a OneStep Auto Focus. Like this one, only ours is blue. Also, it is made in the United Kingdom, which makes me love it even more. Did anyone watch the Royal Family special on ABC last night? I did!
{Thanks, Nino, for the inspiration, once again!}
She Tried to do a Figure Zeven

Last week Arwyn’s preschool went on a field trip to a local ice arena. She had never skated or even been on a sled before, so she was slightly excited and talked about it obsessively for weeks beforehand. I kind of thought that she would just take off once she hit the ice, but she tried skating for a few minutes, then spent quite a while being pulled in a sled, then decided she wanted her boots back on so she could play hockey with the plastic sticks and pucks. She fell a lot more with her boots on than with her skates on, but it didn’t keep her down for long. I mostly stood off to the side taking pictures and trying to avoid the various news and cameramen shooting footage for the local paper and tv stations.

When they do activities like this, I am overwhelmingly glad that we decided to send her to this particular school. The teachers are fantastic and they do so many things that we probably wouldn’t do otherwise. Even though the ice rink is literally a 2 minute drive from our house, I just wouldn’t think to take her there and I wouldn’t be able to do much to help her in my current state.
I happened to mention something about roller skating after this trip and now she wants to go to the roller rink with the disco ball. I don’t even know if there is a disco ball. I was thinking about the roller rink I went to as a kid when we were discussing it in great length and detail. I think that might be a trip that will have to wait a few months. In the meantime we still have three more field trips to look forward to!
