Picture this: it is day five of Spring Break. The previous four days have been filled with activities to distract you both from the fact that there is no school this week. You tried to go to Target to make a baby registry, but they wouldn’t accept your password, even after you called India Customer Service on your cell phone from the lobby of Target, so no gun/scanner thingy for you. The apple juice from Sonic was consumed in a matter of milliseconds. It is too cold to go to the park. What else is there to do? Why, visit a thrift store, of course!
Here’s what 90 cents will get you at one of our local thrift stores. But only if you have a three year old with you who is touching everything in sight, crawling around on the extremely dirty floor, and trying to hide in the racks of clothes. Not that we “need” any more books or glassware, but they really wanted to come home with us and who was I to condemn them to a life of feeling unwanted on the thrift store shelf?
I just couldn’t live with that kind of guilt.

Today I am exactly 29 weeks preggers. Sorry for the fuzzy, grainy picture. The only full length mirror in the house is in our bedroom, which is purposely dark most of the time. I didn’t feel like removing and then replacing all of the quilts covering the windows just to get a good photo. Yeah, we have blinds, curtains and quilts as window treatments. Also notice the lovely brick tv stand. This room will become Arwyn’s room if all goes as planned, so it takes a distant back burner in the home decorating department.
For the sake of posterity and the baby’s book, I thought I’d show a picture of how fat I am awesome I look. I haven’t had the swelling that I had with Arwyn and I hope that doesn’t happen this time. I can’t remember when that started with her, and I haven’t dug out my old pregnancy journal to check. Slacker!
I don’t feel like I have talked much about this pregnancy, at least on the blog anyway. It’s a busy time in our lives and a lot goes unsaid most of the time. I am excited, nervous, terrified, tired of being pregnant, just plain tired. 11 weeks to go.

The first daffodil of the season! We’ll just pretend we can’t see all of those dead leaves from last fall that need to be cleaned out, m’kay? I noticed it Saturday morning and ran over to snap a pic on my way out. My daffodils never look all spritely and flouncy like my various neighbors’ seem to. They are sort of clumpy and floppy. But I don’t do anything at all to them, so perhaps that explains it. A gardener, I am not, though I do wish I knew more about it. So we’ll just also pretend that I have lovely landscaping and whatnot as well. Maybe someday…

Yesterday I received an order I placed with Girl Land. It arrived in a cute little package tied up with a yellow polka dot ribbon. So fun! I bought the hair clip for Arwyn, but if she won’t wear it then it will become mine, all mine! I need something to distract from my ever-expanding belly.
She was absolutely THRILLED with her new hair bob. Can’t you tell? I believe this might be referred to as the “stink eye”. Pouty, Super Pouty, Poutalicious. I have no idea where she gets that look. None whatsoever.

Another Polaroid Tuesday brought to you by the eighties. Why are all of these Polaroids taken at my grandma’s house? The only thing I can come up with is I remember my aunt had a Polaroid camera, so perhaps she gave the photos to my mom? This one portrays my approximately six year old (?) self, my sister and her then boyfriend (future husband) sitting on the “davenport”. The blondie is my cousin and partner-in-crime.
My grandma quilted and always sat on one end of the davenport. On her end you could always find an assortment of pins and needles stuck into the arm, where she sat next to the lamp and worked on cutting and piecing her quilts.
It looks like one of us scored some Strawberry Shortcake swag for Christmas. I always wanted whatever it was my cousin received. I recall one year we both received purses and I, of course, wanted the one that she got. Once we both got knee high socks and I coveted her purple and white striped ones, which I eventually came to own in the form of hand-me-downs.
I could always count on several things when my cousin came to visit. It would be lots of fun, I would get into all sorts of trouble and do things I wouldn’t normally do, and I would be sad to see her leave but also relieved that I could stop getting into trouble and go back to my goody-two-shoes ways. I’m going to visit her in a couple of weeks. I wonder if we’ve outgrown our trouble-making now that we are grown ups with families of our own…

So yesterday was our niece’s birthday and I hope her package made it to Texas because it contained her card, present, and a card from Arwyn that I forgot to photograph. Fifteen year olds still like itunes, right? I’m not, like, totally old and out of the loop yet, am I?
Also, leftover carrot cake makes lunch a whole lot more fun. Even if I am separating bickering kids.

Yesterday was the first session of 10 weeks of soccer. Forty-five minutes that I can sit on the bleachers observing and chatting with the other moms. I can handle that. She got her own ball, t-shirt and bag. She was supposed to decorate the ball so she will know which one is hers when there are eight little balls being kicked about the playing field. I decided to liven up the plain pink nylon bag a bit with some iron-on letters that I had left over from a previous project.
Her pink sneakers aren’t “tennis shoes” they are “soccer shoes”. Now she’s worried that she doesn’t have soccer clothes. Little girls athletic shorts, here we come.

I like to have an assignment. There I said it. Things flow much easier from my brain to my hands if I have a theme to work with or a particular subject to write about. That’s one of the reasons why I am digging Polaroid Tuesday. I don’t have to come up with anything spectacular or creative or show you what we had for dinner last night. You have to look at my Polaroid because it is Polaroid Tuesday and those are the rules. DeeJay says so.

Here is another oldie but goodie I dug out of an album my mom gave me for my 21st birthday. An album which I love dearly but for some reason keep under my bed? I think I was about three years old, but that’s just a guess on my part. The photo did not hold any enlightening information. All I can tell you is I am at my grandparents’ house, sitting in Papaw’s chair. I do remember the (matching) orange rockers they had. I am barefoot, which was my preferred state of being. I always took my shoes off as soon as I entered their house. I am shocked that I am wearing a dress. It must have been a special occasion, or I was bribed really well that day. It looks a little bit frilly, not something I would have chosen if left to my own devices.
Little Miss Arwyn loves to be barefoot also. It is so funny to see your personality traits show up in the next generation.
I’m off to the Deep Dark Dungeon (aka the basement) to work on a birthday card.

I’ve gotten lots of questions recently about the freezer paper stencils, so I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a little tutorial? I’m sure there are lots of them out there in blogland, but I thought I would try my hand at one if anyone wanted to see the directions spelled out. These three onesies are for the baby-to-be. They were fun, fun, fun. The little seahorse one is my favorite.
I need to make some Easter cards, some birthday cards and a birthday gift. If time permits this week, I hope to show those off sometime soon.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I don’t know if I have anything green that still fits. I need to take a picture of the girth to 1) embarrass myself publicly, 2) keep for posterity’s sake and 3) so you can see what I mean when I say I look like I swallowed a watermelon. Three months to go!

The start of “birthday season” is upon us once again and you know what that means: more freezer paper stencils. You would think that I would get tired of these, but really the possibilities are endless. When I make one, I get ideas for ten more!
I found these t-shirts on clearance at Target. I added a few transportation vehicles to one and a big J to the other and now I have two birthday presents to hand out. Arwyn got another A shirt also, just because. Now I’ve moved on to onesies for the baby. It’s an illness. Today I bought new paint colors. I was getting a little bored with the color selection that’s available, so I’m going to try mixing colors and see what happens. It may get wild and crazy up in here. Hey, it’s possible.
