I’ll Raise Ya

Last Saturday night we went to a friend’s house for a night of Texas Hold’em and lots of snacks. We aren’t exactly big gamblers, but we were able to scrape up enough for the $5 buy in. Six hours later, Bubby and the hostess split the pot and we had $20 to take home. Bubby’s infinite patience and non-chalance paid off. What was so funny about this situation was it finally came down to the two most non-competitive people at the table. They decided to split the pot just to end the game because we had been playing for so long and neither of them cared if they were the big winner.

Since none of us knew what we were doing or could even remember the rules, we had cheat sheets. I probably wouldn’t have played if it had been with serious gamblers. I would have been laughed right off the table. But, since it was all friends of ours and nobody was going to be joining the World Poker Tour anytime soon, I felt comfortable enough to don my visor and lose my $5. I think I won three hands. I was just happy I wasn’t the first one out. Jerry Yang would be proud.
