My Spidey Sense is Tingling

spidey.jpg

Nope, it’s not a Halloween decoration. This gigantic, freaky-looking thing is living in our party tent and Bubby seems to want to keep it around as an outside pet. Yesterday he told me there was a big spider in the tent and I was all, “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Then I go out there today and see this thing hanging above my chair. Holymarymotherofjesus! He wasn’t kidding. I was going to do some research and see if this is some sort of man-eating variety, perchance, but I’m not certain I want to see a bunch of pictures of hairy things with legs. (I get the willies every time I look at the picture –and I make fun of Bubby for being afraid of spiders, shame on me!) So, if you know this to be poisonous, please leave me a comment.  Trying to think happy thoughts:  Charlotte’s Web, Charlotte’s Web!

Something Like an Obsession

ed-emb-hlwn.jpg

Is it really twenty-six whole days until Halloween?  I might have introduced the concept a tad too soon.  Non-stop talk about Dora costume:  check.  Age-appropriate books from library on subject of Halloween:  check.  Children’s Halloween movies:  check.  Trips to visit neighborhood over-decorators:  check.  Jack-o-lantern cookies baked and consumed:  check.  Disappointment because we cannot color in the Ed Emberley drawing book:  check.  By the end of the month, she’ll either be worked up into a frenzy or she just won’t care anymore.

I Have Never Eaten a Brain Sandwich

festival.jpg

In our town, the first week of October signifies the annual Fall Festival.  While in the past, the festival has been an excuse to gorge ourselves on every kind of fried food imaginable (elephant ear, anyone?), now that we have a child it is merely a money-hemorrhaging experience.  So why do we subject ourselves to this, you might ask.  Tradition?  Stupidity?  Misguided sense of philanthropy?  I’m really not sure, but she loved the giant slide.

Don’t forget to say hello today!

Pumpkin Mania Begins

zcc-muffins2.jpg

It may not feel like fall, but it smells like it in my kitchen. Cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin. Mmmm. In celebration of the first day of October, I made Chocolate Chip Zucchini Muffins this morning. The recipe is from angry chicken. It isn’t too terrible health-wise and they taste awesome (especially warm from the oven). Miss A even ate part of one for breakfast. If it contains chocolate, it can’t be all bad.

This morning I was ordered to retrieve Arwyn’s Dora costume from the basement. A costume which we do not have. Her plan (as also told to her pre-school teacher): she will be Dora, the boy I babysit (who I like to refer to as my male charge–why, I have no idea) will be Boots the Monkey and Henry will be Diego. Um, right, I’ll get right on that. So it looks like she will be Dora for Halloween this year. UGH. I knew the cool costumes couldn’t last forever. Damn you, consumerism! I will not, however, be purchasing one of these. I do have standards, you know.

Happy October, all.
